Every year, a group of Londoners take the first or second Sunday in January to celebrate silliness together by holding the no trousers on the tube event.
All shapes, sizes, and race gather to ride the tubes, remove the trousers off, and act normal, as if they have no spectators at all. In this event, you will see a few people holding mini yellow umbrellas, instructing joiners on which tube to hop on and which platform to stop by, also giving time check every now and then due to the impending tube strike at 18:00.
Some passersby look in awe, shock, and delight, while others bother to ask what’s going on. One joiner remarked, with a straight face, that he just forgot his trousers at home. Everything that followed can be imagined to be buried with a laugh.
After party commences in a bar in London. That one also consists of no trousers so joiners could grab a pint, talk about their funny moments, and party the night away.
Freedom and humor wins in this liberal city. The energy in the cold blanket of air in the middle of winter is one of openness, warmth, and joy; it’s pretty special to see a flock of strangers gather in celebration of doing something purely for fun.
Oh, it’s been said that this event started as a comedy prank in New York in 2002 and cities like Prague, Warsaw, Boston, Berlin, London, and Moscow soon followed.
What a cheeky thing to do … love this idea! Hopefully they’ll hold one near me soon, so I can participate!
Where are you located, Frank? Perhaps you could organize one in your area? *wink wink* 😀
This is so funny! I would love to ride the tube in such a day but I don’t think I would take part in it as I am too shy. I love your photos, you have captured the event so well! The yellow umbrellas are so cute!
I’ve read about this in the news! Such a funny idea, I can only imagine the faces of people who have no clue what is going on 😀 Did you participate? 😀
Hahah, what a funny event!! As I started reading the post, I found it a bit weird as I was wondering why would anyone in their right mind walk around without trousers moreover take a ride in the tube. But the pictures just made me realise how light-hearted and fun the whole event is :).
This looks so funny. I love the pictures in the metro. Although it looks a bit cold 😉
Great post! We did this a few years back with a group of Couchsurfers in Atlanta, and we had a blast!
This is actually a world wide event, and big cities around the globe do it. Will be joining again soon!
I never knew about this phenomenon! I think I’d choose a pair of darth maul boxers for this day!
Love the Star Wars guy… hope it is done in my place too. This will nspire my to buy some mroe fashinable underwares… he he
Omg, this is such an amazing thing to go – go off the pants! I loved all the pictures you’ve taken and someday if in London, would like to be a part of the movement – to celebrate silliness.
